ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Community Health and Wellness to join the FMFN Team! Fort McKay is a progressive First Nation in search of an innovative Director who will carry out the vision, objectives and strategic direction set by Chief and Council through operational standards, collaborative and integrated holistic community program and service delivery and policy development. The Director is responsible for the efficient management of all health-related departments, facilities, programs, services, and staff and must practice cultural awareness and sensitivity. This is a permanent full-time salaried position reporting directly to the Executive Director, Community Programs & Services Directorate and is based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly, located in Fort McKay, AB,

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide leadership and direction to planning, organizing, implementing, maintaining and evaluating culturally safe and relevant, holistic health and wellness programs and services
  • Oversee and Manage all operations of the Health Centre, Family Supports Centre, Riverside Long Term Care Facility and Elders Centre; accountable for program personnel and contractual health and clinical professionals
  •  Accountable for the safe management and administration of electronic health records
  • Responsible and accountable to the Executive Director, reporting on a regular basis; quarterly, semiannually, and annually
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of professional societies and health agencies at the municipal, provincial, and federal government levels to ensure the compliance of FMFN health programs
  • Action the requisition for procurement, purchase, and maintenance of all Fort McKay Health Centre equipment and facilities
  • Study and evaluate data available to prioritize the public health needs of the community and make recommendations on the development of needed programs, services and infrastructure
  • In collaboration with staff establish work goals including review timelines, and results to be achieved by department staff
  • Provide regular and annual performance evaluations for staff and consultants to ensure work completed achieves stated strategies
  • Provide opportunities to staff to further develop and maintain skills and key competencies
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
  • A Masters Degree in Health Administration or Public Health preferred Or at minimum a Degree in Human Services, Health Sciences, Nursing, Health Care Management, Social development or other related degree combined with 3-5 years of Health management
  • Certified First Nations Health Manager credentials and active member in good standing with the First Nations Health Managers Association of Canada; and/or willingness to enroll and complete the certification program
  • Five years or more experience working in a community health setting including development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of health, social and senior services programs
  • Extensive Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values
  • Demonstrated Leadership experience working in First Nations Health
  • Experience in safe and accurate data and information management as it applies to the Health field
  • Able to supply a clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector
  • CPR and ACLS required
  • Valid class 5 Driver’s License & Clean Driver’s Abstract Required
  • Successful candidate will be required to live in (or relocate to) Fort McMurray, Alberta

The Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is composed of over 800 band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage, with approximately 400 members residing in the hamlet of Fort McKay a community located approximately 65 km north of Fort McMurray.
