ABOUT FORT MCKAY

The Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is composed of over 800 band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage, with approximately 400 members residing in the hamlet of Fort McKay — a community located approximately 65 km north of Fort McMurray. ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a motivated and multitask-oriented individual who is flexible and works well in a team environment to fill the position of a 3rd year Plumbing Apprentice. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the plumbing and HVAC work required in the residential, commercial, and community facilities is managed and completed in a timely and professional manner. Under the supervision of the Journeyman Plumber, you will complete duties associated with installation, operation, and repair of heating, air flow, and air conditioning systems. This individual must be able to interact with staff at all levels in a fast-paced environment, while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient. This is a full-time position based on eighty (80) hours bi-weekly, located in Fort McKay, AB. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

HVAC

  • Aid with HVAC system installation in homes and offices
  • Installing, servicing, and fixing roof units for residential and business buildings’ heating and air conditioning systems
  • Use a range of hand tools and equipment for HVAC installation
  • Repair and replace air ducts
  • Ensure that all tools, materials, and gear are in good operating order
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems and associated equipment
  • Ensure that all HVAC systems adhere to industry standards and regulations

    Plumbing
  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing fixtures, pipes, and other systems
  • Install supports before the installation of pipes, equipment, and fixtures
  • Identify and locate leaks
  • Performing cutting, welding, and assembling of pipes, tubes, fittings, and fixtures
  • A thorough inspection and testing of plumbing systems for safety, functionality, and code compliance
  • Collaboration with contractors, construction workers, and electricians to meet plumbing requirements
  • Provide a daily report of site conditions including work scope, force levels, and safety issues
  • Oversee completion of punch-lists, close-out documentation, and demobilize the job site at the completion of a project
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned

 

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Grade 12 Diploma or GED Required
  • Completed Year 2 of Plumbing Apprenticeship
  • Knowledge and strong understanding of HVAC and plumbing codes
  • Must be able to provide a clean driver’s abstract and Pass Criminal Reference check
  • CSTS and WHMIS; H2S Alive, Fall Arrest, Elevated Work Platform, Other Trade Tickets
  • Good physical fitness to move with ease throughout - sitting, standing, walking intervals.
  • Experience in a First Nations community is a definite asset
