ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a caring and empathetic individual with a strong ability to build relationships and communicate effectively to fill the position of Support Worker, Senior Services. The incumbent is responsible for providing essential transportation and support services to seniors in the Fort McKay First Nation community. This role focuses on assisting seniors with daily errands, participating in programs and events, and providing 1-1 visits and support for the Meals on Wheels program. This is a full-time permanent position and may require the need to work outside of regular working hours occasionally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide transportation for seniors for errands such as banking, grocery shopping, and medical appointments.
  • Ensure the safe and timely transport of seniors to and from their destinations.
  • Maintain a clean driving record and adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular visits with seniors in the community to provide companionship and support.
  • Assist seniors with daily activities and ensure their well-being.
  • Address any immediate needs or concerns during visits.
  • Provide support during senior programs and events organized by the Senior Services department.
  • Assist with the setup, execution, and cleanup of events.
  • Engage with seniors during events to ensure their participation and enjoyment.
  • Assist with the preparation, packaging, and delivery of meals to seniors through the Meals on Wheels program.
  • Ensure meals are delivered in a timely and safe manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of meal deliveries and recipient interactions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Additional training or certification in caregiving, social work, community services, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a support or caregiving role, preferably working with seniors.
  • Proven experience in providing transportation services, including familiarity with safe driving practices and vehicle maintenance.
  • Previous experience in community service, social work, or a similar field is an asset.
  • Experience in assisting with programs, events, and meal delivery services is preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license is required
  • Must provide a Clean Drivers Abstract
  • Must provide a clear Criminal Record check with Vulnerable Sector
  • Ability to speak Cree or Dene is a definite asset
  • Experience working in an Indigenous community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is considered an asset
