The Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is composed of over 800 band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage, with approximately 400 members residing in the hamlet of Fort McKay — a community located approximately 65 km north of Fort McMurray. The Fort McKay First Nation is seeking a motivated and multitasked oriented individual who is flexible and works well in a team environment to fill the permanent full-time position of Janitor. Reporting directly to the Continuing Care Facility Coordinator, the Janitor will be responsible for performing janitorial duties for the Riverside Continuing Care Facility in accordance with standard policies and procedures. This is a full-time permanent position working Monday to Friday with some weekends.


Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Clean and supply designated building areas (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning etc).
  • Gather and empty trash cans and replace trash can liners.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms.
  • Clean all appropriate surface areas in break rooms and common areas, including but not limited to sinks, countertops, tables, microwaves, and refrigerators.
  • Restocks supplies in bathrooms, break rooms and common areas.
  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
  • Dust furniture, walls, office machines and equipment.
  • Inform Supervisor or Manager of any needed repairs to facilities and/or equipment.
  • Follows all safety procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and equipment.
  • Clean floors in hallways, office areas, lab areas and general work areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing and/or vacuuming.
  • Maintain janitor closets in a clean, organized and safe manner.
  • Maintain hard-surface floor area by stripping, sealing, finishing and/or polishing using chemical agents and power equipment.
  • Clean exterior common areas around Company facilities such as but not limited to building entrances and patio areas.
  • Maintain a professional and courtesy demeanor while working in locations with high volume public and employee interaction.
  • Other duties as assigned


  • High School Diploma
  • Proven working experience as a Janitor
  • Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies
  • Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets
  • Integrity and ability to work independently
  • Clean criminal record check
