THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly dedicated and professional Recreational Therapy Assistant to join our team! The Recreational Therapy Assistant will assist the Recreation Therapist in developing and implementing recreational programs and special events for Elders and FMFN community members. This individual will interact with staff at all levels, while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. This position is based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly, located in Fort McKay, AB.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Actively Work with Elders and Vulnerable community members of Fort McKay.
- Work closely with home care staff to ensure programs meet the care plan needs of home care clients.
- Assist in developing programs that are culturally relevant and inclusive.
- Assist in conducting interviews and assessment documents.
- Help with Elders special events, planned programming and day to day requests.
- Keep up to date with new developments in the field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and establishing and maintaining contact with other social agencies.
- Work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client-centered care and participation in care teams.
- Work closely with and support the Recreational Therapist already employed in Elders Services .
- Other duties as assigned.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation therapy assistant program or equivalent training is preferred.
- Registered or able to register with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA)
- One-year related experience working within recreational service delivery.
- Working knowledge of services, assessments, care planning and all applicable guidelines and standards as relates to Recreational Therapy is preferred.
- Experience working in an Indigenous community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is considered an asset
- Valid class 5 Driver’s License & Clean Driver’s Abstract Required
- Clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
