ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a passionate Music Teacher who is looking for an enriching experience to be part of the Elsie Fabian School team. The Music Teacher will be responsible for leading the music instruction and providing quality teaching to the students. They will provide ongoing analysis and pedagogical knowledge and make decisions that support optimum learning for all students. The Music Teacher must help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which may include singing, moving to music, playing of instruments, and listening. This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Principal of Elsie Fabian School.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Teach general music to students in K to 9 grade.
  • Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
  • Provide opportunities for music ensembles including rock band, choir, & musicals.
  • Plan, rehearse, and direct students in musical programs for the school and the community.
  • Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student.
  • Plan a balanced music program, and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
  • Evaluate each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.
  • Communicate clearly with parents and school faculty on the progress of individual students.
  • Maintain care and responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Cooperate with school staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings, seasonal programs, talent shows, and music at lunch time.
  • Design and implement Individual Program Plans.
  • Create a classroom characterized by inclusion, equity and differentiated instruction.
  • Participate in the school community beyond the classroom.
  • Build positive and collaborative relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Apply the Alberta Teaching Quality Standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • Possess a Bachelor of Education - Major in Music
  • Holds a valid Alberta Teacher’s Certificate
  • Knowledge of teaching Music to students in K to 9
  • Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset
  • Ability to speak, read and write Cree and/or Dene considered an asset
  • Clean Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector required

ABOUT THE  SCHOOL
The Elsie Fabian School opened its doors September of 2022.  The school has incorporated both the Dene and Cree Language, culture, and Land-Based Education where students learn about their rich local history.
